Thursday Night Review

Well this is my first blog, I figured I should join the craze. So my bad if this doesn't go over too well. I'll analysing Thursday and Monday Night games for the rest of the season. Every now and then I'll chime in on other stories that I feel are worth writing about.

Two potential playoff contenders squared off last night in Miami, with the visiting Chicago Bears coming away with a shutout win.

The Bears defense, led by Brian Urlacher, seemed to dominate the game (evident by the scoreline). They held Miami's offense to just 187 yards and just one 3rd down conversion on 11 attempts. The Bears managed to get to Dolphins QB Tyler Thigpen 6 times with Julius Peppers leading the way with half that total alone.

However, Chicago's offense wasn't much better with Cutler being held to just 156 yards and an interception. Running Back Matt Forte carried the ball 25 times for 97 yards and a touchdown which sealed the victory for the Bears.

There were a few issues that I had with this game, mainly concerned with the Dolphins. One of which was the penalty on Brandon Marshall for taunting. I know most who will read this will be against me on this one but come on. Most people would do the same, it wasn't malicious as Deion Sanders said he didn't throw it at him, it was a simple pitch. I know I would have done the same if I was playing against a teammate I was close with. It's just banter, Cutler was heckling him on that sideline. I know it's probably written somewhere in the rule book but come on the refs need to lighten up on penalties like that. It is slowly becoming the No Fun League.
Another issue I have with the Fins is that Tyler Thigpen is not the answer, they need Chad Henne to get healthy and quick. Defenses are all over this offense. Ronnie Brown cannot carry their offense, as it has been proved the past two games where he has been held to a total of 21 yards. Henne will take the pressure off the running game and get Miami back on track.
On the plus side though, the Defense is playing pretty solid football. Their young secondary is causing a lot of problems for opposing QBs especially Vontae Davis, who has really developed in his second year. Another young defender I'm loving is rookie Defensive End Cameron Wake who is causing issues for the Offensive Tackles he has been against, he now has 9.5 sacks on the year.

I'm going to wrap this up now but check out my boy Ross Parsons and his predictions for this week at: http://rozzap.blogspot.com/ He got last night's game correct although he was a little off with the score.
